Broadband and Analogue Line Price Changes
Broadband and Analogue Line Price Changes
Over the last few months Openreach have increased pricing in a number of areas particularly with their analogue network and related services. This has forced a number of wholesale broadband providers to reflect this in their transfer prices. This will impact a range of products particularly traditional ADSL2 and FTTC broadband services. In addition to this, the analogues lines used to support these services will also see price rises from Openreach. The price increases will be 10% and 12% respectively.
We can however protect you from the price increase by converting your current service to next generation SOGEA broadband as part of Openreach’s network upgrade in readiness for the ISDN/Analogue network switch.
Openreach started upgrading their Analogue network and converting it into a fully Digital one some years ago, this is scheduled to be complete by December 2025 and will render traditional broadband services using analogue lines obsolete. This means users of ADSL2 and FTTC broadband will need to upgrade to the new fully digital offering called SOGEA/SOTAP or upgrade to the high speed FTTP (up to 1 Gbps) or a fibre leased line if higher speeds are required before December 2025.
With more than two years to run there is time, however, with the price increases we are suggesting a switch to SOGEA now to avoid these increases. Upgrading will also protect your organisation going forward with a product that will not become obsolete when Openreach finally switch off their analogue network.
Please note the switch to SOGEA is a straightforward process and will not cause any disruption to your current internet usage. You will not require any new equipment or need to reconfigure any of your current networks as you will keep your existing IPs. It is a seamless switch and is usually completed within a couple of weeks. You will see it on your bill as SOGEA broadband. By doing this you will upgrade to the latest broadband and not be subject to the price rise.
If you would like to do this please let us know and we will initiate the upgrade for you. The upgrade utilises your existing analogue line and if this and the number is currently used by another service, e.g. alarm it will also need to be considered prior to transfer.
If you would like to keep your existing FTTC service, then unfortunately this will be subject to the price increase mentioned above. Your line rental will increase by 10% and your broadband service will increase by 6%.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we can run through them with you.
